Golden Milk (Turmeric Milk)

FD036A12-D0C2-4F65-BBB3-F04CF121592CGolden milk is a traditional Indian Ayurvedic drink made with ground Turmeric (or Fresh Turmeric),  milk, black pepper, rock sugar and ghee. Other spices and sweeteners can be added to make more tasty and nutritional.

There multiple health benefits. Turmeric Milk is full of anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It has antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties. Supporting brain function and improving memory, preventing heart disease, may reduce the risk of cancer etc.

It is the perfect warm drink for winter months or other nighttime drink. Make for yourself and family and enjoy!!

Ingredients

  • Regular Milk or any other milk (Almond, Cashew, Coconut etc.)
  • Turmeric 1 Tsp.
  • Pinch of crushed Black Pepper
  • Pinch of Ginger Powder
  • Rock Sugar to taste
  • Optional
  • Coconut oil or Ghee (Clarified Butter) ½ Tsp. you can add if you like

Method

  • Place milk, turmeric powder, ginger powder, crushed black pepper, Sugar in a small sauce pan.
  • Cook, stirring frequently, until warm not boiling.
  • Give it taste; adjust spice according to your desire.
  • Turn off heat and Strain into your cups or in a glass.If preferred, sprinkle with ground cinnamon or cardamom powder. Serve.

Variation (Method same as above)

 Golden Milk with Saffron

  • Milk two cups + Turmeric 1 Tsp. + Saffron 4-6 stems + Pinch of ground ginger and cardamom powder

  Golden Milk with Tea Masala

  • Milk two cups + Turmeric 1 Tsp. + Saffron 4-6 stems + Tea Masala ½ Tsp. + Crushed Almonds.

   Golden Milk with Fennel Seeds

  • Milk two cups + Turmeric 1 Tsp. + Pinch of ground ginger + Fennel Seeds (Roasted and Crushed) ½ Tsp.

Tea Masala and Dry Fruits Smoothie

This smoothie is very energy boost, healthy and delightful. Nutrition wise is almost a meal in glass with the goodness of milk and dry fruits. I would like to make this smoothie in a morning or as a part of afterschool snack for my son. According to your choice you can add cardamom seeds or Tea Masala or any other nuts like cashew. Make one and enjoy!

Ingredients

  • Dried Figs (Anjeer) 8 soaked for ½ hour and chopped
  • Dates 6 soaked in warm water for about ½ hour
  • Walnuts ¼ cup
  • Almond ¼ cup
  • Milk 1 ½ cup
  • Dark cocoa powder 1 Tsp.
  • Tea Masala 1 Tsp. or Cardamom seeds from Pods 3-4 (Optional)
  • Honey 1 Tbsp. or Brown Sugar 1 Tbsp. (Optional)

Method

  1. First wash Figs, dates, almond and walnuts and then soak for half an hour or more.
  2. Add all ingredients and milk in to a blender.
  3. Blend until everything is mixed (I am using Vitamix Blender so blending up to 30 to 40 second).
  4. Add more milk if the mixture is too thick.
  5. Enjoy your smoothie!!

Magnesium Boost Smoothie

IMG_0190Mostly all ingredients used in smoothie are Magnesium rich. Magnesium is a healthy mineral that plays a role in a number of chemical activities in our body. It helps maintain nerve and muscle functioning, keeps our blood circulating properly, and ensures healthy and strong bones.

Ingredients

  • Dry Figs 6-8 (Soaked overnight in water to rehydrate)
  • Almond ½ cup (Soaked in water overnight)
  • Banana 2
  • Sesame Seeds Black or White 2 Tsp.
  • Pumpkin Seeds 2 tsp.
  • Water 1 Cup or 1 Cup Coconut Water

Method

  1. Add all of the ingredients with water or coconut water to a blender.
  2. Blend until everything is mixed (I am using Vitamix Blender so blending up to 30 to 40 second).
  3. Add more water if the mixture is too thick.
  4. Enjoy your smoothie and have a wonderful weekend!!

Churma Ladoo (Sweet Ball)

Churma Ladoo is a delicious sweet served in the auspicious occasions. I make it for festival of Ganesh Chaturthi. The Churma Ladoo also makes an excellent energetic snack for adults and children. Only thing is this making process takes time and patience to make ladoo, but the end result is mouthwatering and makes all the effort worth it.

Ingredients

  • Wheat Flour 1 ½ cup coarsely grounded
  • Besan ¼ Cup
  • Rava/Sooji/Semolina ¼ Cup
  • Ghee or Oil 2 Tbsp.( For making dough)
  • Ghee ½ Cup ( For 10 th step)
  • Oil or ghee approximate 2 cup for deep fry
  • Jaggery ½ Cup
  • Powdered Sugar 1 ½ Tbsp.
  • Green Cardamom Powder ¼ tsp.
  • Nutmeg 1/8 Tsp.
  • Poppy Seeds 1 tsp.
  • Dry Fruits 2-3 Tbsp. ( Broken)
  • Raisins 1 Tbsp.(optional)

    Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl take whole wheat flour, besan, and sooji.
  2. Add 2 tbsp. ghee and add approximate ½ cup warm water or warm milk.
  3. Combine all ingredients and knead into stiff dough. Add water or milk if required.
  4. Now take a portion of wheat flour dough in hand, press hard and make Muthia shapes from dough.
  5. Repeat the process for remaining wheat flour dough and make Muthia. Keep aside.
  6. Now to fry the Muthia heat oil in a deep bottom frying pan. Heat on medium heat and fry Muthia in oil for 4 to 5 minutes. Till it is completely cooked from inside and turn golden brown.
  7. Take out the fried muthia and drain the excess oil on kitchen towel. Let the Muthia cool down.
  8. Cut the Muthia into pieces and grind them in a food processor into powder. Sieve through a fine sieve to remove big chunks. Re-grind the remaining chunks if required.
  9. Take a nutmeg and pound in a mortar and pestle. Add in Churma mixture. Add cardamom powder, raisins, and dry fruits of your desire.
  10. Now melt ghee in a pan and add Jaggery. When Jaggery start floating on ghee, turn off the gas.
  11. Pour the melted Jaggery and ghee into Churma mixture. Add powdered sugar.
  12. Combine all the ingredients and make nice Churma mixture.
  13. Now make Churma ladoo from Churma in a mold or by taking a portion of Churma in hands and making nice spherical balls or round balls.
  14. Repeat the process and make ladoo from remaining mixture.
  15. Apply some poppy seeds and dry coconut and garnish the Churma ladoo.
  16. Churma ladoo are ready.

Note: You can make ladoo from bhakri, if you wanted to avoid deep fry. Cook the bhakri on tava with a help of muslin cloth till the bhakri turn golden brown and crisp. Cut bhakri into small pieces. Continue method from eight steps.

Pina Colada Smoothie

Pina Colada smoothie is my one of the favorite smoothie. It’s made with only few ingredients. It’s very refreshing, cool, and healthy.

  • Pineapple Chunks Fresh 1 Cup
  • Coconut Milk Unsweetened 1 Cup
  • Honey 2 Tbsp. or Brown Sugar 2 Tbsp.
  • Cumin seeds Powder ¼ Tsp. 

      Method

  1. Add all of the ingredients with coconut milk to a blender.
  2. Blend until everything is mixed (I am using Vitamix Blender so blending up to 30 to 40 second).
  3. Enjoy Smoothie!!!

Gram Flour Fudge (Mohanthal)

Mohanthal is a very popular Indian sweet, also favorite for auspicious occasions and festivals. My family really loves this fudge(Mohanthal). Hope you are going to enjoy my simple and tasty Mohanthal recipe.

Ingredients

  • Gram Flour 2 Cups
  • Ghee ¾ Cup
  • Milk 4 Tbsp.
  • Sugar 1 and ½ Cup
  • Nutmeg Powder 1 Pinch
  • Green Cardamom Powder ¼ Tsp.
  • Few threads of Saffron
  • Almond Chopped 10
  • Pistachios Chopped 10         

Method

  1. Heat 2 tbsp. milk in a pan and add 1 tbsp. ghee, heat till it melts. Place gram flour in a bowl, add the ghee-milk mixture and mix with fingertips. Keep aside two hours or at least fifteen minutes. After pass it through thick sieve, pressing lightly to remove lumps.
  2. Heat ¾ cup ghee in a pan; add the sieved gram flour and sauté on medium heat, stirring continuously, till fragrant and dark in color. ( Approximate going to take 10-12 Minutes)
  3. Let it cool completely. ( Important step)
  4. In a saucepan cook together ½ cup of water and 1 and ½ cup of sugar on medium heat to make syrup.
  5. Cook the syrup till it gets 1 ½ string consistency.
  6. Grease a tray, add nutmeg powder, saffron threads and green cardamom powder to the gram flour and mix well.
  7. Add 2 tbsp. milk to the sugar syrup and mix well. Add the syrup, little by little, to the gram flour mixture and mix well.
  8. Pour into the greased tray and spread evenly. Sprinkle almonds and pistachios over gram flour mixture and press lightly. Set aside and cool completely. Cut into squares shapes (Mine is diamond shape because my son likes a diamond shape).
  9. Separate the pieces and serve.

Mango Mania

Cool down this summer with a fresh and fruity smoothie like Mango Mania, Super healthy, vitamin –packed and refreshing. 

In small amounts, cumin seeds and ground cumin can be good to cooling the body in hot summer.

Ingredients

  • Mango Fresh Peeled and chopped in cube ½ cup
  • Fresh seedless orange wedges ½ cup or Orange juice ½ cup
  • Honey 1 Tbsp.
  • Protein Powder 1 Tbsp.(Optional)
  • Cumin Powder ¼ Tsp. (Optional)
  • Almond Milk or Water or coconut water if you are not using Orange juice.   

   Method

  1. Add all of the ingredients with water to a blender.
  2. Blend until everything is mixed (I am using Vitamix Blender so blending up to 30 to 40 second).
  3. Add more water or Almond milk if the mixture is too thick.
  4. Enjoy your smoothie!!!

Berry Blast Smoothie

imageBeery Blast Smoothie is a quick and simple to make in a summer. It’s delicious, creamy, nutrient with all berries together.

Ingredients 

  • Mix Frozen or Fresh Berries 1 Cup
  • Banana 1
  • Clear Honey ½ tsp.
  • Almond Milk or Water or Juice according to your desire consistency (According to ayurveda milk and yogurt are incompatible with sour fruits so trying to avoid to use in my smoothie).
  • Flax seeds or hempseeds or chia seeds or sesame seeds 1 Tbsp.     

Method 

  1. Add all of the ingredients with filtered water or almond milk to a blender.
  2. Blend until everything is mixed (I am using Vitamix Blender so blending up to 30 to 40 second).
  3. Add more water or Almond milk if the mixture is too thick.
  4. Enjoy your smoothie!!!

Dark Chocolate Almond Cake

Dark Chocolate Almond Cake is a simple delicious recipe. Dark Chocolate is very nutritious; it is one of the best sources of antioxidants.

Prep. Time 5-10 Minutes Cook Time ½ -1 Hrs.

Ingredients

  • Dark chocolate roughly chopped 200 grams
  • Brown sugar 50 grams
  • Almonds roasted and roughly chopped 100 grams
  • Digestive or Maria or Parle g biscuits 200 grams ( 12-15 biscuits)
  • Butter 100 grams
  • Milk approximate 100 ml

 Method

  1. Heat butter in a pan, add chocolate and brown sugar and let it melt.
  2. Grind biscuits to a powder, grind almond to a powder. Keep aside some chopped almond for garnish. Grease a cake tin.
  3. Switch off the heat and add ground biscuits powder along with almonds powder. Mix well. Add milk as needed and make dough like consistency.
  4. Pour the chocolate mixture into a cake tin and spread it evenly. Refrigerate for 1/2 to 1 1/2 hours.
  5. Remove the cake from cake tin, garnish with chopped almonds, sieve 1 Tsp. Cocoa powder on top,cut the cake in wedges, arrange on a serving plate and serve immediately.

Gojiberries,Banana Super Smoothi

Goji berries are a delicious addition in smoothies. Goji berries are famous for their antioxidant and phytonutrient content. They are rich in beta-carotene and pack a lot of calories. It is one of my super smoothie that will keep me active and energetic all morning long.

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup dried goji berries
  • ½ cup strawberries or cherry or any berry
  • 2 small bananas, peeled
  • 15-20 dry washed raisin
  • 1 tbsp. hemp seeds
  • ½ tablespoon cacao powder
  • 1 spoon of brown sugar or Maple syrup
  • 1 scoop of protein powder ( optional)
  • 8 ounces of water or almond milk

Method

  1. Add all of the ingredients with water to a blender.
  2. Blend until everything is mixed (I am using Vitamix blender so blending up to 30 to 40 second).
  3. Add more water or Almond milk if the mixture is too thick.
